All,

Last Friday night The Boy, LWay, LMartin, his girlfriend and I all went off into the city for the Culture Festival. None of us live very far outside the centre or from the fjord - maybe a mile or two - so The Boy and I decided to go in early and then meet up with the others when they had finished work. The Boy and I arrived mid-afternoon at a tent housing enormous canvases and vast pots of paint, being run by a woman who explained that everyone was invited to scrawl whatever they wished and the results would be put up at a local childrens hospital. I began, and an hour later (much to The Boys palpable boredom) finished a vast array of insects and whatnot across one of the screens. The woman who had initially invited us asked if I painted professionally, to which I replied I had done in the past, and as a result she gave me information to contact the group she works for as they were apparently looking for new artists. This made me skip in small heady circles...at least after I left the tent anyway.

Next port of call was...well...a port. More accurately a ship docked AT the port which doubles as a restaurant below decks and a glass workshop above. We were given a brief demonstration and then asked if we fancied a try at making something. I requested making some glass baubles in black and clear glass, as I know that the two combined give beautiful silvery grey colouring. I picked both of them up today and they're just perfect. To pass the time whilst the glassblower and I talked and experimented The Boy (who didn't want to try) made a fuss of the elderly ships cat, which was a deeply laid back tortoishell persian affair whose level of ability in rodent control was probably limited to accidentally falling asleep on them. It has become known as The Flummer, for every so often it would rearrange itself, walk in a small circle, and fall down with a deep sigh and a noise akin to "flum".

It was around this point that Lway and LMartin and the latters girl put in an appearance. We had hoped to meet with TSensei also, but his flu had only worsened and he wanted to stay home, so I texted a get well message and received a smiley kiss in reply. The Boy was not amused, as he more than suspects (er, rightly, as it happens) that I have a crush on TSensei. Eh, I'm a good girl, but even good girls are allowed to swoon on occasion.

We went off and saw a couple of shows, and even went to a crossbow range which was unbelievably disappointing as they only fired corks. Considering that all but one of our small party are weapons-obsessed that's probably a good thing. Afterwards we scouted around for someplace to eat and sit with a few beers, and wound up back at the restaurant of the glassblowers ship. Finally we all said our farewells and sauntered home, admiring the waterfront and the stars reflected in the fjord. Sometimes I love living here.

Happily, it's a ninja life,

Me
